Artist Statement
Though representational, my art is not about the image or subject. There is no narrative, and the figures are little more than vehicles for abstraction. The intellectual exercise helps me make sense of the world I am in. As of now, the concepts of math, especially chaos theory, patterns and fractals, are influencing my art. I integrate the information by working with larger, simpler forms that suggest more detail and color. As in Kulike’s work, I want my pieces to seem highly detailed and realistic when viewed from a moderate distance, but from up close I want the paint and forms to be almost completely abstract and unreadable. I do this by limiting myself with different rules depending on how I want to experiment with my work.
